This is something I don’t think I have spoken much about ~ my healing with Chinese Herbal Medicine. For the many years since I have been a single parent I have had my on again off again struggles with stress, worry, hormonal imbalance, anxiety and depression. Pushing me right to the edge at times. And for the most part I thought the way I felt was pretty normal and life just wasn’t enjoyable and a horrible experience.
I also think that a lot of the single parents struggle with the same thing and it’s a very common experience for us. I have always leaned more towards a very natural way of living, mostly due to being sensitive to many things, but also because I just like a more natural lifestyle. I’m not a fan of chemicals and believe in leaving a very small footprint on this beautiful planet we are on. So it was always a natural choice for me to find remedies for myself that were more inline with nature, the rhythms of the human body/system and at a cellular level.
I think it was probably about 5 years ago when I visited a Naturopath, only to find that I had run myself down completely and my adrenals were totally exhausted. Hence I was constantly tired and felt exhausted all the time. I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue and given a tonic of medicinal herbs to take on a regular basis. One of the main ingredients was St Johns Wort and still is a staple for me ~ this is an enormous help with depression/anxiety/mood stabiliser.
Fast forward about 5 years and I have an new Naturopath and a new remedy filled with lots of goodies. Life can get pretty hectic so I have to push myself to remember to take it every morning and every evening. It has changed my whole life!!! I notice such a difference in myself and my life with the support of plants for my body. I feel completely supported and functional in every way and it’s something that I will keep up for a long time to come yet. Honestly I don’t know what I would do without them!! It’s really hard to express how much they help me on just a day to day basis.
I’ve discovered that when one endures stress or trauma over a long period of time it does a damage to your body, mind and spirit. It takes something from you that needs to be repaired with the right balance and nurture and it is something we can’t put a time frame on. It has to happen in its own time.
I generally get a large bottle at a time which lasts me a few months and will always come in a dark glass bottle and can just be stored in the pantry. These herbs are a pretty potent taste, so its a good idea to have it with orange or apple juice and also wash it down with extra juice.

It’s been my experience whenever I’ve been struggling emotionally, exhausted, drained by parenthood or life these herbs help me so much to give me some balance to function so much better. More than I can even express!! Mine are a blend formulated specifically for me, so a naturopath will formulate for what you are needing help with. I know what I will be reaching for when menopause rears its head … but that is a looong way off … and for another post!!!
So all I can say really, to wrap this up is if you are needing some help with energy levels, hormones, anxiety, imbalance or depression, or anything really it’s worth talking with a Naturopath about it and getting some help. I can’t recommend it high enough.
Until next time, stay well!
